Stobo Farm- The name.

When I first looked at this property I noted it was across from a well know outcrop along state route 46, known as the Stobo bioherm (don’t stop to look traffic is not safe for pursing the outcrop). I don’t remember why I looked, but I pulled up some old county maps to find a small black square on the map with Stobo P.O. located where the current house seemed to be.

After a trip down to the Monroe county historical society it indeed was a post office around the turn of the 20th century, serving about 100 homes. They don’t have a copy of the post mark for this post office, so if you happen across one we’d sure appreciate a copy/photo of it or perhaps the old house itself. We assume it was run out of the house. In the information about the post office it said the original name was requested to be Stephens post office, this was denied and Stobo was designated. Not sure how the post master decided that, but we thought that was fun so Stobo it is.

Why-

This is a way document our journey, we have a plan for our hobby farm and this is one way for you to connect with us via stories, events, tours, food, and camping. I do plan to share some about how we ended up here. I’ve learned a lot about family this past year and ideally somethings I share will hopefully help another human in found in a similar situation.

The ‘we’ refers to myself, two children, and Josh. We may have a story or two about Grandparents as well. Very likely chicken stories as well (we lost one already- not enough evidence to determine it is wandered off or no longer living). Oh, and the relentless white German Shepard and an old Brittany.
